SORBS - you'd be a complete idiot to use it.

Document Actions
SORBS is a remote blacklisting service which uses out of date information and is poorly maintained. If you are an ISP or server administrator who uses SORBS then you're also a fucking idiot.

SORBS is a blacklist that was created by Matthew Sullivan. It uses an ancient database of suspected dynamic IP addresses which are causing an increasing number of problems to newly allocated fixed IP ranges.

We've nothing against RBLs - we use them ourselves - but a good RBL is one that is being constantly updated with new information.

Matthew Sullivan is a lazy fucker who is only spurred into action if you donate money to his favourite charities. If you don't, you stay on the blacklist until he can be bothered to update the records.

Here is the relevant copy from his site:

If you are listed in the Spam Database read the Spam Database FAQ,
then and only then you have 2 options.

      1. Pay the fine, and get delisted.
      2. Argue that you shouldn't have to pay.

Paying the fine will get you delisted very quickly (usually within 48 hours)...
However, when donating to the Royal Childrens Hospital and sending in the receipt
ensure you send in the receipt number (the actual receipt is not needed, only
the number - this is usually prefixed 'IR'). Due to privacy laws and the fact
SORBS is not part of or connected with the charity. Payment confirmations can
only be verified when a receipt number is given along withe the payee's name.

Don't take my word for this, do a search on Google for "sorbs sucks" and you'll find the same story...

Or click here

Or take a look at the SORBS project page at sourceforge.net and take a look at the comments left unanswered in the forums.

The businesses listed below should give careful thought to whether they really want their names associated with Matthew's peculiar brand of extortion:

Minx

OPTUSnet

One.net

Optimum Online

See the names of any impressive ISPs in the list?

Of course not. No serious ISP would use a service as shitty as SORBS and risk the loss of important email to their customers...
